Phoebe’s Travel Favourites
I dedicate this column to two of my best furry friends who are sadly no longer with us: Chloe and Zoe.
My favourite destinations are (in no particular order):
- Winter Springs – running in the scrub, swimming in dams, going around the sheep, playing with the farm dogs, riding on the back of the ute. This place is like that place beginning with S in Asia somewhere that is a bit like Nirvana (the place, not the band). You’ll have to forgive me, I’m only a dog and my command of the English language is not so good… ah, that’s right, Shangri-La (Ha, I knew I would remember… only a dog indeed!).
- The beach. Not fussed which beach, I’ve been to several including Glenelg to Seacliff in Adelaide and Flat Rocks south of Cowell on Eyre Peninsula.
- Anywhere there is food… and people gullible enough to give it to me when I look pleadingly up at them.
- Victoria Park racecourse (thanks to Zoe for the tip… on the destination rather than the winner of the 6th race. The donkey she put me onto ran a very distant last, however made for quite a large and tasty meal). Here I can run around the track and pretend I’m a greyhound.
- The couch. I get to do some serious thinking while dozing on the spare couch. I’m a little concerned that Newton may have miscalculated the gravitational constant, but will need a few more sleeps in order to refine my own theory.
- The Orphanage off Goodwood Road. One of Zoe’s better tips. I’m still trying to find that exploding dog that seems to occasionally leave behind the better part of it’s coat distributed over a 1/4 acre. The creek is great for fishing. So far I’ve caught three soggy tennis balls and slightly decomposed duck.
- G’s parents place. I walk in hungry and leave looking more like the larger of the Three Tenors. Who said dogs don’t eat pasta?
- Camp Chloe, Hazelwood Park. Once or twice a year I used to spend a week or two at Camp Chloe, a school for budding dressage champions run by none other than the queen of dressage herself Chloe Parnis. While she could be a hard taskmaster, and the sessions were often very intensive, I felt that at the end of the day my ability to prance around was greatly enhanced thanks to her tutoring. I am indebted to her masters for the chance to attend this school. RIP Chloe, you are sadly missed in dressage circles throughout the country.
